Maitreya’s Meeting with Matang Baba

Maitreya met Brahmarishi Matang Baba in mystical circumstances. The period 1992-1993 was mystical for Maitreya because He had many divine experiences then. One was during a meeting in His office, there walked in a person who wore a turban and the entire office could feel as if a hurricane had hit them suddenly. The man had a stick in his hand, his face was bright, and he wore a long beard and his hair was matted.

He prophesied many things for many people and then he took a look at Maitreya, smiled at him and went away. Feeling the essence that flowed through his eyes, Maitreya felt strange. In the blink of an eye, he came back to Maitreya and started talking about Him, His family and other personal details. Though He felt strange because many things were unknown to Him but He could grasp the depth of his words.

Very soon the next meeting occurred with Matang Baba on a midnight in 1995. Maitreya was on His way back from the night shift in office, when Matang Baba appeared before Him and stopped Him in His tracks. Though a slim but strong bodied one, Matang Baba always wore his hair matted and that is why he looked like so many other Sadhus yet there was something special about him. The moment Maitreya stopped His scooter Matang Baba took the keys and ran away in the opposite direction. Seeing him run with the keys, Maitreya also ran after him. Just under the flyover they had reached and near the crematorium he stopped. He threw the keys back at Maitreya and demanded, “Chal, khana khila. (Come, give me food).”

It was past midnight (precisely 01.05 am) and just a lone vendor was standing at a distance who had something to eat.  It was strange to find one at that time. Maitreya went upto him and bought some kulchas and chola (leavened bread and Bengal gram curry). Matang Baba waited and when he got it, he threw it on the ground. In an instant, he touched Maitreya’s forehead with his index finger and thumb. After that moment, Maitreya woke up but did not know after how long a time but found Himself lying under the bridge. But the strange thing was, He could feel a different kind of energy vibrating in His body.

That was when Maitreya realized that Brahmarishi Matang Baba had initiated Him into Kaivalya Kumbhaka diksha where the inhalation and exhalation go into suspension. Maitreya shared with me about it that, “This state is where the involuntary state of samadhi occurs where the loss of breath is the only event that happens. In this state, only the inner consciousness opens its petals and the purity reaches the inner most subtle channel to flow upwards. He gave me the divya prakasha vimarsha. My heart was filled with bliss and breathing resumed after sometime. This state got me to understand the flow of the breath in body properly – a divine gift from Baba ji. I knew that there has been no change in physical structure or my nature yet something had changed in me which I could sense and feel for the surge of it could be easily felt.”

After gaining His senses, Maitreya saw him sitting nearby and creating a Yantra with a twig and chanting a mantra. The obvious question raced through Maitreya was if He was His guru about whom Gurudev Shri Chidananda Bharati Maharaj ji had told Him?

‘Aaja aaja. Mai nahi tera Guru, kutch bate thi jo kehni thi isliye aaya. (Come, come. I am not your Guru. I wanted to let you know a few things, so I came.)”

Time and space had no relevance then for Maitreya as it was the first time He felt He was opening up from within. Gurudev Swami ji had by then shown Him the way to another teacher, who in turn, pointed to Maitreya’s Guru. But it was not the last time Maitreya met Matang Baba. Many times later on, Maitreya met Him and was able to gain the divine knowledge of Brahma Gyana from him.

It was through Matang Baba that Maitreya gained the darshan of Rishi Angira and received deeper knowledge of Atharvam and Tantra. Maitreya calls it an intense period because it required long hours of sahaj-samadhi and sakal-drik-darshan.

Matang Rishi guided Him to become the disciple of Mahaprabhu  Pinakadrika, who at that time was at Rudraprayag for meditation. This was before HE moved on to Kedarnath. Brahmarishi Matang Baba had blessed Him with the knowledge of awakening the mind and subtle energies in preparation to His meeting with Mahaprabhu from the state of body knowledge that was provided by Gurudev Swami Sri Chidananda Bharati Ji.

Eternally, Maitreya receives darshan of this ageless saint in subtle form when He requires solutions and solace. Brahmarishi Matang Baba became His first Diksha Guru though He rarely agrees according to Maitreya.

After the first Diksha Maitreya was blessed to meet His Master Mahaprabhu  Pinakadrika.
